Location: Chromosome 17
gene name:
ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme)
The ACE gene has been linked with physical and athletic performance. Studies with army recruits suggest that people who are homozygous for the longer form of the gene will respond better to physical conditioning. The longer the gene is, the less enzyme is produced and the more mechanically efficient muscles become.
Biological elements:
chromosome 17, ACE gene
